DERRY — Early primary results Tuesday gave Kevin Coyle the top spot in the GOP District 3 Rockingham County commissioner race.

Coyle took the lead over fellow Derry resident Phyllis Katsakiores and Auburn incumbent C. Donald Stritch.

District 3 towns include Derry, Londonderry, Auburn, Candia, Windham, Chester, Deerfield, Northwood and Nottingham.

Preliminary totals gave Coyle the edge over Katsakiores by about 400 votes, with Stritch coming in third. Auburn results were not available at press time.

Katsakiores spent 28 years as a Derry state representative, but decided to run for county commissioner earlier this year. Coyle, a former town councilor, decided to run against his Derry counterpart for the District 3 job.

Stritch served as a county commissioner since 2003. He has not been challenged on the Republican ballot in previous years.

Democrat Bob Davidson was unchallenged and moves to the November ballot.
