Barka Elementary School third-grade teacher Lynn Rees was chosen by her colleagues as the Derry Education Association teacher of the month.

DERRY | Lynn Rees's students gave her a standing ovation Friday morning.

She's this month's teacher of the month for the Derry Education Association and her students agreed with the association's assessment.

Rees, a 19-year Derry teacher, was "honored to be recognized by her peers." The third-grade Barka Elementary School teacher was nominated by fellow third-grade teachers for the award.

Her principal, Dan LaFleur, called her a dynamic teacher and said she is a leader in the school building.

Rees said she was completely surprised about the award and was convinced another Barka teacher was receiving it. She bought the flowers and some of the supplies for the ceremony, which was held last Thursday after school.
