DERRY — About 20 people participated in the first Health Aging lecture series last week, presented by the Derry Parks and Recreation Department in conjunction with Parkland Medical Center.
Dr. Andrea Bizar-Schneebaum, a rheumatologist with Southern New Hampshire Internal Medicine Associates, spoke to the group at the Alexander Carr Lodge.
She went over the differences between rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, and also discussed gout and osteoporosis. The audience was encouraged to interact with the doctor and ask questions as she went along in the hour-long presentation.
"We decided to team up with Parkland for this," said Eric Bodenrader, director of Derry Parks and Recreation. "We have the space to offer them and they have the resources for presenters. We also both have senior clientele."
A different topic will be presented each month. Future presentations include wound care and drug interactions.
Each lecture will include a presentation from a health-care expert, as well as a question-and-answer session. Attendees may also submit questions in advance.
Selected lectures will be broadcast via Derry Public Television for those who cannot attend in person.
Seating is limited and advance registration is required. For more information about upcoming talks and to register, call the Recreation Department at 432-6136 or visit parklandmedicalcenter.com.
Light refreshments are provided and suggestions for future topics are welcome.
