LONDONDERRY — It's a battle between the brothers.
Saturday when the University of New Hampshire and Central Connecticut State University meet on the football field.
Londonderry High School graduates Sean Ryan, a redshirt freshman at UNH, will suit up for the Wildcats, while brother Casey Ryan will be dressing as a Blue Devil. They are pictured above in the days they played for the Lancers.
Sean Ryan, who stands at 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 285 pounds, plays offensive guard and tackle at UNH. He's also the backup snapper for extra points and field goals.
Older brother Casey stands a little taller at 6 feet 5 inches and weighs 270 pounds. He's a redshirt junior at Central Connecticut. Casey is the starting left offensive tackle for the Blue Devils.
Both were three-year letter winners at Londonderry High and All-State selections. Casey graduated in 2007, Sean in 2009.
Dad Steve Ryan is proud of both sons and didn't say which team he'd be cheering loudest for Saturday.
Brookstone has two career-first holes-in-one
DERRY — Michael Shea of Haverhill, Mass., made his first career hole-in-one on Aug. 15 at Brookstone Golf Course.
Shea used a 9-iron to ace the 138-yard fifth hole. The shot was witnessed by Kris Horigan of Brookline.
Samantha Laroe of Beverly, Mass., recorded her first hole-in-one at Brookstone on Aug. 22. Laroe used a 9-iron to ace the 76-yard fourth hole.
The shot was witnessed by Meredith Cipriani of Derry and Daniel Laroe of Beverly.
Lancer golf team drops to 0-3 with loss
LONDONDERRY — The Londonderry High Lancers' golf team dropped to 0-3 on the young season Monday, finishing fourth against Keene, Dover and Merrimack at the Passaconaway Country Club in Litchfield.
Matt Tobin led the Lancers with 37, second-best overall.
He was followed by Taylor Simpson at 40, Nick Stone at 44, Chris Ugolini and Justin Renik at 47, Phil LaTorre at 49, Bobby Barrett at 50 and Jake Welch at 53.
Varsity Astro boys beat Keene in double OT
DERRY — The Pinkerton boys varsity soccer team kicked off the season with a 3-2 win over Keene Aug. 27. The victory didn't come easily, with the winning goal scored in the second overtime period.
Sean Smith, Antonio Villavicencio and Alex Patrikis all had a goal apiece.
Astro keeper Peter Siragusa had eight saves.
Pinkerton JV soccer squad downs Keene, 2-1
DERRY — The junior varsity Astro boys soccer squad beat out Keene Aug. 27, 2-1.
After being down 1-0 late in the game, the Pinkerton squad scored two goals within five minutes. Ryan Williams and Connor Johnston each scored for the junior Astros.
