Derry Little League team ends its season

Derry's 12-year-old team rounded the last base in Little League World Series Tournament play. On July 2, Derry played Manchester East and lost, 12-0. Matt Tritto and Jericho Howell pitched, and just could not get it going. Derry only got 13 batters to the plate, getting their lone hit from Jericho Howell.

The loss put Derry in the elimination bracket. On July 7, Derry faced Salem National.

With Tom Olson pitching and striking out seven of the first 10 batters he faced, Derry took a 1-0 lead through three innings.

The run came from a bases-loaded double by Tom Olson that hit near the top of the outfield fence. Unfortunately, a mistake by the base runner caused only one run to score, and the next runner was thrown out at the plate.

In the fourth and fifth innings, errors began to mount. That resulted in a pitching change and Salem took the lead, 3-1. Matt Tritto took the mound for Derry.

In the sixth inning, Salem put four more runs on the board. The game ended with Salem National winning, 7-1.
