LONDONDERRY — The Lancers started their season-opener strong against Memorial at Lancer Park April 11.
Londonderry jumped out to a 3-0 lead, thanks to a 2-RBI single from Vinny Parilla and an RBI-double from Jake Cassidy.
Unfortunately, that would be all for the Lancer offense. They dropped their first game, 8-3, to Memorial.
Starting pitcher Keith Simpson threw well, but the defense didn't quite back him up.
But the Lancers came back strong two days later, topping Alvirne, 11-5. That was a big win since Alvirne is the defending Division I champion.
Pitcher Ryan Moloney led Londonderry to its first win. He threw six innings, striking out eight and giving up no walks.
The Lancer defense apparently learned some lessons from their outing two days earlier and performed well.
Londonderry also stepped up to the plate, with a much stronger offensive outing. Austin Marino went 2 for 4, with two doubles and two RBIs.
Dan Kinnon nailed a double and was 2 for 3. Vinny Parilla was 1 for 4, but that one hit was a big home run. Mike Ryan went 2 for 4, with a double and an RBI.
