DERRY — This summer’s Parks and Recreation schedule definitely has something for everyone.
Registration is underway for the list of spring and summer sports, activities and trips planned for 2013. Popular programs are offered for all ages.
Recreation T-ball action was scheduled to begin this week with divisions for 4- and 5-year-olds up through 7 years of age.
Play is on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. for older players, Tuesdays and Thursdays for the younger division. Play is weather permitting.
In addition to T-ball, the town’s Grasshopper league for ages 5 to 9 is underway.
Other summer programs this year include kayak lessons, American Red Cross swimming lessons, fitness classes and youth sports camps, senior trips and other special programs.
Other recreation selections for spring include:
“Zumba Movement” is held at Veterans Hall gymnasium Saturdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. through June 15. The instructor is Jackie Penrod, leading high energy, Latin-infused dance moves and exercises. Classes are $10 each or $40 for the entire session. New members are always welcome.
On May 22 at 2:30 p.m., a representative from Parks and Recreation and Collette Tours will be at the Alexander-Carr Park to answer any questions anyone may have about planned trips this summer including the Maine Lobster Adventure, Southwick Zoo, fall foliage trip, Foxwoods Casino, a holiday trip and the Shades of Ireland tour.
Summer for kids officially kicks off June 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the annual Kids Night Out event. It features musical performances by Mr. Harley and the Strollers, the Red Star Twirlers, bounce houses, food, face-painting and much more.
In addition to the summer recreation programs, summer activities include the fourth annual Derry Farmers Market, beginning June 19 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot at 14 Manning St., in front of the municipal center. Market sponsors and vendors are welcome to sign up by calling market director Beverly Ferrante at 434-8974.
