Salem Saints have busy weekend on the ice

The first half of the weekend for the Salem Saints Mites ended in a 4-4 tie against Methuen.

Mason Drouin recorded another hat trick, with Brendon Banks getting the other goal. Brendon Banks, Jake Wrobel and Mason Drouin had assists.

There was a solid defensive effort by Patrick Cohen, David Olsen, Matt Gilliland and Joey Carney. Ryan DeSimone displayed cat-like reflexes fiercely defending his net from the Methuen attack.

The second game of the weekend was a tough loss to Nashoba, 5-4. Mason Drouin started off the scoring with a pair 23 seconds apart in the second period. Nick Peters put one home in the third, and Brendon Banks notched a power play goal in the third. David Olsen was busy in the net.

In their only game of the weekend, the Squirt 1 team beat Nashoba, 4-1. The Squirt 2 team played a pair of games this weekend with their first ending in a tie against North Andover, 2-2. Goals were scored by Michael Vicente assisted by Jacob Heckman. Ian Kirkorian tapped one in from Hunter Healey.

The second game was a shutout against Agawam, 4-0. Brandon Paiva and Aleksei Lavrentyev combined in net for the shutout. Goals were scored by Shea Kingsley, Eric DeFelice, Mason Healey and Thomas DeFelice, with assists credited to Patrick Hare and Michael Vicente.

The PeeWee 1 team played two games on Saturday. In the first game, they beat Melrose, 5-0. After a scoreless first period, Salem got the scoring going in the second with Connor McCurley, Chad Desautels and Danny Donovan. Two more goals were added in the third period by Brad Brock and Chad Desautels.

In the second game, the PeeWee 1 team lost to Nashua. 7-6. Salem scored three goals in the second and three goals in the third, but Nashua scored the game-winner with 10 seconds left on the clock. Salem got goals from Dom Bruzzese, Ryan Montbleau, Danny Donovan, Connor McCurley and Chad Desautels (2). Brad Brock, Desautels and Bruzzese were credited with assists.

The second Saints PeeWee team lost to Winchester, 5-2, in their only game of the weekend. Both Salem goals scored by Dustin Kingsley, with assists going to Abigail Lagos and Joey Goudey.

The one game for the Bantam 1 team ended in a shutout against Nashua, 1-0. Matt Halaby had a very strong game between the pipes and recorded another shutout. Ryan Day got the lone goal, assisted by Ryan Bradley.

The Bantam 3 team dropped two games over the weekend. The first game against Stoneham ended, 3-1, with Dawson Merrill getting the lone goal with a shot from the point. The second game was a loss to Everett, 7-4.
