Charest's field goal keeps Lancers playoff hopes alive
LONDONDERRY — After an untimely penalty give Nashua South a late 1-point lead, Matt Charest answered with a 32-yard field goal with 18 seconds remaining to give Londonderry a 31-29 victory and keep its playoff hopes alive.
Now at 5-3 in league play, the Lancers will advance to the postseason if Manchester Central loses next week to league-leader Salem.
The Little Green stayed in contention with their 21-10 defeat of Pinkerton last night.
Despite suffering a pair of fumbles inside the Panther 10, Londonderry was able to climb to a 28-13 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Joey McLaughlin (176 yards, 2 TDs) and Sean O'Gorman (104 yards) had long-distance romps to pay dirt wrapped around a fumble recovery and 25-yard return by Mike Wiedenfeld.
However, South answered on a Keith Farkas TD pass and conversion run along with Derek Paradise's 2-yard TD tote. And after the Lancers were whistled for a roughing the kicker penalty on the tying point-after, the Panthers went for two and took the lead on Nick Haskell's option pass to Nick Frederickson.
