Demons' defense, front seven reign in the rain
The front seven on offense owned the day on a rain soaked muddy field against teams from Lawrence and Manchester. All four Derry Demons teams won behind a great display of blocking by the big guys up front who dug into the muddy field and drove the defenders back allowing for some nice big running holes for the backs to go through.
6th Grade Derry 27 - Manchester South 6
The 6th grade team looked impressive running the ball behind great upfront blocking from the front five "Beasts", lead by David Giblin, Brandon Schoff , Billy Gibbons, Joey Hannigan and Nick Hamilton who opened holes all day long for Nick Coombs and Mike Stuart while Joey (Bread Truck ) Lydick and Mike Horak both created their own running holes for some tough yards. Defensively Tyler Gendron had multiple sacks and an interception while the defensive line kept up the pressure all day. The sixth grade is now 4 -0 on the season.
5th Grade Derry 32 - Manchester East 13
The 5th grade team ran all over the Manchester East team behind great blocking up front from Kyle Fortier, Adam Morin , J J Wright and Deene Hill. Nico Buccieri and Evan Rodgers once again carried the load for the team both making some exciting cut back runs for big gains, Sam Goudreault and Mike Faragi also contributed to the running assault with many hard runs up the middle to get first downs when needed. Manchester struggled to gain any yards against a very strong Demons defense. The 5th grade is now 3 - 1 on the season.
4th Grade Derry 26 - Mill City 12
The 4th grade team lead by a very good young quarterback Mark Hayward and strong running by Ja Vell Desir and newcomer Tim Beimel continued their winning ways with a big win over a solid Mill City (Lawrence) team. Desir and Beimel both ran effectively behind a great wall of blockers. On defense Cam Longo and Nick Ward made some great tackles while disrupting the Mill City offense. The play of the game came a half time though when coach Gary Demilo proposed to his girlfriend Lisa at the 50 yard line in front of the crowd.
3rd Grade, Derry wins over Manchester South
The 3rd grade team continues to show great improvement each week after losing their first game they have bounced back with two straight wins. This week they played a much bigger Manchester South team and came away with a very impressive victory. Hunter Ickes stole the show for the Demons making several incredible runs through the heart of the Manchester defense while Seth Williams continued to show that he is a force on both sides of the ball.
Derry Wolverines sweep pair
JV rolls, 26-8
The Derry JV team extended their record to 3-0 with the 26 - 8 win over the Tewksbury Redmen.
While Tewksbury had sent a scout to the games the previous week¬ against the Manchester Bears and came to town to win. It didn't take¬ long; however, for the Derry Wolverines to meet the challenge as the Redmen of Tewksbury turned the ball over on their first set of downs¬ and then the Wolverines marched downfield for their first touchdown. The JV team was lead by quarterback Conner Holland (#7) who also¬ contributed by running in a touchdown from 8 yards out. Leading the¬ offensive running were Ryan Day (#20) with 74 yards, David Dupont¬ (#22) with 24 yards and a touchdown,
Chris Madeiros (#24) with 44¬ yards and 2 touchdowns, and Peter Cyr (#28) with 26 yards. The offensive line was lead by Jason Hansen (#60), Brandon Parent (#57), Ben Couture(#62), Joey Campbell (#75), Alex Pendenza (#78), and Hunter Morris (#74). The JV defense was tough and held the Tewksbury offense¬ to just 1 touchdown. Jason Hansen (#60) led the defense with 8 tackles, Lloyd Williams (#88) and Ryan Day (#20) both had 7 tackles¬ each, David Dupont (#22) had 6 tackles and an interception, Chris Madeiros (#24) and Ethan Chechowitz (#43) both had 6 tackles each, and Daniel Lannan (#89) round out the top defensive tacklers with 5 tackles and a fumble recovery. Derry will host¬ Andover at Don Ball Field at 6 p.m. this coming Saturday, Oct. 3.¬
Varsity outslugs Tewksbury, 48-28
The Wolverines Varsity team (3-0) kept the momentum going as they met the Tewksbury Redmen head-on with a total offensive of 368 yards and a victory of 48 - 28.
Offensive rushing accounted for 298 yards and the Wolverines tacked on¬ another 17 yards passing. Wolverines quarterback Luke Testa (#9) guided the Varsity offense by handing the ball to Manny Latimore (#22) who rushed for 168 yards on 11 carries and Matt Madden (#33) who¬ rushed for 92 yards on 17 carries. The offensive line held strong¬ against a big Tewksbury defense through the efforts of Phillip Harper (#74), Nick Gallagher (#75),
Shawn Murray (#52), Austin Brown (#70), Garrett Foskitt (#53), and Austin Maylor (#51). The offense put 48 points on the scoreboard thru ought the game. On Defense the Varsity team held the Tewksbury Redmen to 28 total points with Luke Testa (#9) leading the group with 9 tackles followed closely by Manny Latimore (#22) with 8 tackles and a fumble recovery. Mark Hanlon (#87) and Brett Connal (#45) both had 5 tackles and a fumble recovery to lead¬ the defensive efforts.TheWolverines varsity will host unbeaten Andover at Don Ball Field on Oct. 3 after the JV game.
