Demons defense leads to sweep
The Derry Demons continued their winning ways this weekend with very strong defensive efforts by all four teams.
3rd grade tops Nashua PAL, 13-6
The 3rd grade team fought hard against a bigger Nashua PAL team to come away with a victory, this was a defensive struggle from the opening kick-off with neither team wanting to give the other much yardage. In the end the Demons offensive line did a great job of blocking allowing some strong runs by Seth Williams and Hunter Ickes. Defensively Seth Williams was all over the field making great open field tackles.
4th grade stomps Nashua PAL, 32- 6
The 4th grade team offense exploded behind by a very good young QB #14 Hayward, and some strong runs from Desir, Newman, Curry and Tunstall for over 351 yards of total offense. The defense stood strong once again only allowing 6 points. The play of the day was a touchdown saving tackle by Desir, showing off his speed by running down a Nashua PAL player .
5th grade trims Nashua PAL, 19-13
The game of the day saw a very determined 5th grade team grind out a tough come from behind victory over a very good Nashua PAL team. Trailing 13 - 0 after the first quarter the 5th graders dug in their heels defensively not allowing any further scoring. Offensively Nico Buccieri and Evan Rodgers both had great games running the ball for big plays, while Goudreault and Faragi gained the tough yards up the middle when they needed it.
6th grade blanks Nashua PAL, 25-0
The 6th grade team again shows that they can get it done even with key players out due to injury (last week Brandon McColligan out with knee injury this week Joey Lydick out with Hip strain). The defense lead the way for the 6th grade team continuously backing the Nashua PAL team up on every play behind great play from the defensive line Mike Horak, Anthony Greenaway, Mike Curley and Hayden Sturdevant. Offensively Nick Coombs and Brandon McColligan had big gains behind solid upfront blocking and Zach Sullivan had a touchdown reception.
Next week the Demons will again be at home beginning at 8 a.m. hosting Manchester South, Manchester East and Mill City.
