join hoop shoot

DERRY — The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Derry and the Derry/Salem Elks will once again host the first round of the Elks National Hoop Shoot.

The contest will be held at the Clubs gym on Saturday, Dec. 4. Registration is from 8:30 to 9 a.m., with the contest beginning at 9 a.m.

The basketball foul-shooting contest is open to any area boys or girls between the ages of 8 and 13.

Each shooter takes 25 foul shots, with the top three scorers of each age group getting awards. Three age group winners in both boys and girls divisions will advance to district finals in early January.

There is no fee for the event, just come in and test your basketball shooting skills against kids your own age. Three age groups for boys and three age groups for girls and age is determined by your birth date as of April 1.

Free lacrosse

clinic offered

DERRY — Parks and Recreation in conjunction with Derry Youth Lacross Association hosts a free introductory youth lacrosse clinic Dec. 3, 10 and 17.

The clinic is for boys and girls who have never played before. It will be held Monday nights at the Sports Zone.

Clinic times are: kindergarten through fifth grade, from 5 to 6 p.m.; sixth through eighth grade, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Snowmobile safety course offered

DERRY — Parks and Recreation, Derry Pathfinders and New Hampshire Fish and Game host a snowmobile safety course on Dec. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Alexander-Carr Lodge, 28 Pierce Ave.

Participants must be at least 12 years old by April 2013. All under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Celtics Sullinger, Green come to Derry

DERRY — Jared Sullinger, the Boston Celtics’ first-round draft pick, and forward Jeff Green will sign autographs at the SportsZone, 7 A St., on Nov. 27 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Learn to stretch,

relax in 2013

DERRY — Adult Yoga for All will hold 2013 winter sessions on Thursdays at Alexander-Carr Lodge, 28 Pierce Ave.

Fees are $40 for Derry residents, $60 for nonresidents and $25 for families, which applies to the second member of the same family.

There will be five classes in the session. Winter 1 runs Jan. 10-Feb. 7, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. or from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Session II is Feb. 21-April 4 at the same times.

Adult Yoga for All is a Hatha yoga program for adults at least 18 years of age. Participants 16 and 17 years of age are also eligible to participate when registering with a parent or guardian.

Classes are designed to fit all ability and experience levels. Each class requires a minimum of six participants with a 15-person maximum.

Students will be introduced to the health benefits of yoga through stretching exercises, breathing techniques, yoga postures, flow sequences and relaxation.
