Demons kick off season with mixed results
The Derry Demons began the 2009 season this past weekend on the road with teams playing in Pelham, Nashua and Bedford.
6th Grade
Derry 21, Bedford 0
Derry's 6th grade team kicked off their season in Bedford against a strong Bedford Jaguars team with a 21-0 win. The Demons Defense lead by Mike Curley, Joey Lydick, Tyler Gendron and Anthony Greenaway allowed the Jaguars only one first down, while forcing several fumbles and a safety. The Demons defense had the Jaguars offense scrambling all day to find solutions to the devastating pressure. The offense moved the ball at will by pounding it up the middle behind very good offensive line blocking and powerful running by Nick Coombs and Joey Lydick who both ran for touchdowns. Nate Ralston returned a kick for a touchdown to cap the scoring for the Demons.
4th Grade
Derry 6, Nashua 0
The 4th grade team won a defensive struggle over the Nashua Elks Crusaders 6-0. Aaron Tunstull scored the games only touchdown finishing a 13 play 8:20 opening drive on a five-yard carry into the end zone. Davin Curry had an impressive 99 yards on only 9 carries, getting the Demons critical first downs when needed. Quarterback Mark Hayward was very impressive commanding the offense. The Demon defense did their part not allowing the Nashua team to score in the closing moments of the game. The defense was led by a very aggressive front line that swarmed all over the Crusaders and did not seem to give their own linebackers the chance for very much action.
3rd grade, 5th grade teams fall
The 3rd grade and 5th grade teams both fought hard but came up short Sunday with the 5th grade team losing to a very talented Bedford Jaguar team, 33-0, and the 3rd grade team losing to the Pelham/Windham Razorbacks, 38-6.
The Demons are at home on Don Ball field September 13th beginning at 8:00am for more details please visit the Derry Demons website at www.DerryDemons.com.
