University of Massachusetts-Amherst senior Andrew Willbrant of Londonderry recently was named UMass Athlete of the Week for his outstanding performance during the Atlantic 10 Championships.
He helped guide the Minutemen to their 12th Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship.
Willbrant had an outstanding meet as the top individual performer for the Minutemen. He recorded victories in the 100 backstroke (49.64), 200 backstroke (1:48.62) and 200 IM (1:51:30), winning three gold medals for the Minutemen. Willbrant also was part of the 400 medley relay gold-medal team.
He holds the top time in the 100 back (49.61) all-time at UMass and ranks second in the 200 back (1:48.33). He also is a member of the school record-holding 400 medley relay team.
