Derry gymnast is perfect on vault

Morgan Suech of Derry had a pretty perfect weekend. Morgan, a Level 4 gymnast, scored a perfect 10.0 on vault at the Starlight Invitational at MIT in Cambridge, Mass.

The two judges both had to agree the vault warranted the perfect score. As soon as Morgan completed her vault, the judges both looked at each other and smiled, unable to find any deductions.

"I knew a 10.0 was possible at that point, but I have never seen a judge award it," coach Cathie Lowell said. "We were all shocked and thrilled when they flashed the score."

That wasn't the end of the excitement for Phantom gymnasts. The Phantom Level 7 Team won the first-place banner with a team score of 112.625. The Level 4 team won the second-place team award with a score of 113.575, even though they were down two team members.

The Level 5 team also took the second-place team award with a score of 112.350. Level 6 took a fourth-place award with a score of 110.525. The Level 8 team took fifth place win with only four gymnasts up against clubs with 10 or more.

The New Hampshire State meet will be held March 27 and 28 in Stratham.
