LONDONDERRY — There was a whole lot of jumping going on at Londonderry Middle School, as the entire school participated in the Hoops for Heart fundraising program.
Students were given the choice to jump at basketball hoops or to jump rope — pumping up their hearts to raise money for the American Heart Association. The national program is sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Physical Recreation and Dance.
Matt Noon, physical education teacher at Londonderry Middle School, has been bringing this fundraiser to the school for 10 years, coordinating it with the other four physical education teachers.
The school has raised more than $50,000 since the program's inception.
"We asked the kids to wear something red, even though it's March," Noon said. "It's to recognize the Go Red for Women campaign from the American Heart Association."
The tally for the two days of jumping won't be in until next week. On Friday, March 19, students will participate in the fundraiser's grand finale, "Stick It to the Teacher." That could be a sticky situation for physical education teacher Marcel Caron.
"The kids can buy an arm's length of duct tape for $1 and then we're going to try to stick Marcel Caron to the gym wall," Noon said.
