Rebels compete in New England tourney

On March 7, the Derry Boys and Girls Club's Wrestling Rebels competed against the best youth wrestlers in New England at Lowell High School. The tournament, which was sponsored by USA Wrestling, was open to the top six wrestlers from each New England State.

Three wrestlers placed in the tournament. Joey Lydick came in second, Seamus Dolan finished fifth and Drew Chase finished in sixth place.

Dylan Barreiro, Brenden Sullivan and Kyle Peterson wrestled well and did a nice job representing the Rebels.

Derry native stars in Endicott lacrosse

BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College lacrosse player Kellie Cunningham of Derry, a junior, was honored by the Commonwealth Coast Conference last week as TCCC Defensive Player of the Week.

Cunningham helped lead the Gulls (1-0, 1-0 TCCC) to a 21-2 win over Anna Maria College recently. She grabbed a game-high six draw controls and added a goal, assist, and caused a turnover in the Gulls TCCC opener against Anna Maria. Cunningham and the Gulls defense held the AMCATS to two goals in just six shots on goal.

Astro skaters lose in semifinal

MANCHESTER — Pinkerton's run at a second-straight Division I state hockey title crashed during a four-minute stretch of the second period in semifinal action March 9.

The second-seeded Astros squandered a two-goal lead as third-seeded Exeter rallied for a 3-2 victory before about 500 at the JFK Arena.

Pinkerton senior goalie J.J. Solloway made 28 saves. Pinkerton's first goal was scored by Teddy McCarron on a rebound off a shot by Zach Sanford 10 minutes into the opening period. McCarron, who finished with a team-high 20 goals, is one of 14 underclassmen on the team's 20-man roster that return next year.

Wrestling Rebels bring home medals

The Derry Boys and Girls Club's Wrestling Rebels traveled to Plymouth on Saturday, March 13, to compete in the Plymouth Youth Wrestling Tournament.

Joey Lydick and Dylan Barreiro led the way and grabbed gold medals for their efforts.

Seamus Dolan and Shayne McCann came away with silver medals. Drew Chase, Ryan Kittery and Chris Bradford brought home bronze medals. Keygan Nacos wrestled well for the Rebels.

On Sunday, March 21, all the Wrestling Rebels will be in action when they host the Rebel New England Classic at Pinkerton Academy. Five hundred wrestlers from all over New England are expected.

Lancer boys fall in semifinal play

NASHUA — The Londonderry boys have advanced to the state quarterfinals each of the past six years. And for the sixth straight time, the Lancers' state playoff run has ended without a trip to the Class L final four.

Held to only one field goal in the opening period, the 13th-seeded Lancers fell to fifth-seeded Bishop Guertin, 64-39, March 12.

Michael Colby and Matthew Sanborn each scored nine points to lead Londonderry, while Jake Finnegan and Jeff Bintz each added seven.
