Local athlete scores in national meet
The track and field USATF Junior Olympics were held recently in Greensboro, N.C.
Local athlete Brooke Kane represented Derry and Hood Middle School, competing in the high jump.
Brooke earned All American honors finishing fourth in the country out of a field of 49 who had qualified for the national meet.
Brooke credited her coach, Mike Karthas, for his extra work and dedication.
Golf tournament planned Aug. 30
EAST DERRY — East Derry Memorial Elementary School PTA hosts its first benefit golf tournament on Aug. 30 at Hidden Valley Golf Course in East Derry.
The four-person scramble format begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The cost is $100 for adults (17 and older) and $80 for youth (16 and under).
The tournament proceeds will go to support school technology.
The PTA is very active all year long, raising funds to support the school with cultural events, academics, special activities, equipment and summer school programs.

Former Lancer heads to Saint Anselm College
MANCHESTER — Saint Anselm College field hockey head coach Carolyn King has announced the addition of eight incoming freshmen for the upcoming 2013 season, including Kelsey Leblanc, a midfielder from Londonderry.
“Each of them brings a unique skill set and tremendous work ethic that will help our program continue to move in the right direction and compete for a Northeast-10 title,” King said of the eight.
Leblanc was a Division I All-State selection in both 2011 and 2012, as well as a Division II All-State selection in 2010.
A three-time Eagle-Tribune All-Star, Leblanc was also a two-year captain of her high school team. Leblanc was a four-year honor roll member and a Londonderry High School Scholar in 2013.
