DERRY — Derry Demons cheerleaders Ariana Boudreau, 11, and Ashley Dube, 10, recently were chosen as Universal Cheerleaders Association All American Cheerleaders at Cheer Camp at St. Anselm College.
They each received a medal, certificate and patch, and will walk in the 2012 Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade with the UCA All American Cheerleaders. Only the top 12 percent of cheerleaders who attend varsity camps earn the chance to march in this holiday parade.
Both girls are from Derry. Arians is starting sixth grade at Gilbert Hood School and Ashley is a fifth-grader at Grinnell School.
Fourteen Derry Demons girls attended camp, along with Coach Eileen, Coach Kelly, Coach Jess, cheer coordinator Dawn and assistant cheer coordinator Caycie.
It’s an overnight camp that provides comprehensive cheerleading instruction and a bonding experience for squads of all levels. The weekend was very busy, with three days of cheerleading, including cheers, dance and stunts. The days were filled with team activities, big brother/big sister bonding, and one-on-one attention. There was also a Summer Splash Pep Rally.
The Derry Demons won many ribbons, a trophy, a superior award and the Top Banana twice. The Top Banana is given to the team that promotes spirit, pride, accomplishments and sportsmanship every day.
