Astros bounce back

After their first loss of the season, the Lady Astros blanked Dover April 16, 9-0.

Junior Rebecca McGrath remained unbeaten in both singles and doubles on the season. First, she dispatched her opponent in an impressive, 8-0 win at Number 6 singles. She then teamed with fellow junior Julia Janigian for an 8-4 win at Number 3 doubles, earning two points on the day for the Lady Astros.

Pinkerton shuts out Memorial

The Lady Astros were impressive against Manchester Memorial April 18, winning 9-0.

Senior captains Casey Gilman and Anna Lee led the charge as the Astros gained their second consecutive shut-out victory.

Seniors Elizabeth and Lauren Rialdi preserved the shutout with a come-from-behind, 9-8, tie-break victory at Number 2 doubles.

Lady Astros move to 5-1

Pinkerton beat Alvirne on the Lady Broncos' turf April 20, 8-1.

Senior Olivia Fagone and junior Brenna McNally continued their solid play in convincing wins at Number 3 and Number 5 singles, respectively.

McNally, a standout volleyball player, has shut out her last two opponents. Fagone has won five out of six and is riding a four-match win streak, helping the Lady Astros to their best start in four years. The team is now 5-1 on the season.

Concord trounces Pinkerton

The Lady Astros lost a tough ones to Concord April 18, 14-3.

Pinkerton's Riann Daziel scored twice and Erin Coutts had 1 goal. Devin Collins-Ives had an assist. Julia Hoyt had a save in the first half. Katie Jones took over goal tending in the second half and had 4 saves.

Astros fall to Andover

The Lady Astros fought hard against an undefeated Andover, Mass., team April 19, but they fell, 17-8.

Pinkerton had a stronger second half. Kennedy Daziel had 2 goals and 1 assist. Riann Daziel and Erin Coutts each had 2 goals; Maggie McCarthy and Devin Collins-Ives each scored once.

Pinkerton's Katie Jones had 7 saves. The Lady Astros' defense was led by Canada Stewart and Chevy Collins. Ground ball controls were led by Kennedy Daziel with 5, Caitlyn Whearty had 3 and Jackie Johnson had 3, with a strong performance on draws.

The loss dropped Pinkerton to 0-4 on the season.

Close game goes to N. Andover

The Lady Astros came closer, but are still searching for their first win. On April 21, Pinkerton fell to North Andover, 7-6.

Maggie McCarthy had 3 goals. Riann Daziel had 2 goals and 3 assists. Erin Coutts had a goal and Kennedy Daziel had an assist.

Goaltender Katie Jones had a season-high 14 saves. Pinkerton's defensive effort was led by Jess Cote, Canada Stewart and Maddison Driscoll.

The Astros are now 0-5.

Pinkerton tops Memorial

On April 13, the Lady Astros topped Memorial, 5-4.

Melanie Dusseault had 3 singles, and RBI and a run scored. She also was the winning pitcher in relief, allowing 1 earned run in 6 innings.

Kasey Marraffa had a big day at the plate, with 2 singles, a double, an RBI, and 1 run scored, with the game winning walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh.

Britney Bernard and Rachel Byrd both had a triple, a single, an RBI and a run scored.

Pinkerton improved to 3-1.
