Student athletes try out for fall sports

DERRY — It's a sure sign the school year is almost here. Football tryouts started at Pinkerton Academy on Aug. 11. They also started early at Londonderry High School.

Would-be Astros and Lancers are being put through their paces during summer vacation while coaches eye prospects and rate the progress of returning players.

Tryouts at both school are ongoing for a variety of sports — soccer, field hockey, volleyball, cheerleading, golf and cross-country.

Even middle school athletes are reporting early if they want to play on school teams this fall. Conditioning and tryouts begin next week at Londonderry Middle School and Gilbert Hood Middle School in Derry.
