Former Patriots play hoops at LHS

LONDONDERRY — The Londonderry High School Boosters will host the annual New England Patriots Alumni Charity Basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. in the Londonderry High School gymnasium.

Anticipated players include three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Pass, 1986 Super Bowl hero Ronnie Lippett and more.

In addition to the main event, there will be a chance for autographs and pictures during and after the game.

Money raised will help programs supported throughout the year by the Londonderry High School Boosters. Tickets will be available at the door for a suggested $10 donation.

Wrestling Rebels get their tournament season started

DERRY — The fifth-eighth-grade wrestling Rebels started their tournament season with a few place winners at the annual Londonderry Middle School Wrestling Tournament.

Tyler Mackiernan was the top-place finisher, going 2-1 on the day and finishing in second place.

Matt MacDougall (3-1) nets his first career wins, rolling to a third-place finish, also his first medal. Nathan Landry (3-1) had a strong showing on the day, losing his first and then winning three in a row to place third. Robbie Fahey finished fourth.

The Merrimack Valley Umpires Association will hold umpire training classes for anyone over age 16, starting Thursday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m. at St. Michael’s School, 80 Maple Ave., North Andover, Mass.

Anyone wishing to be trained in Major League Baseball rules should attend these classes, scheduled for seven consecutive Thursday evenings. The MLB umpire’s exam will be administered at the end of the exam.
