high school basketball
DERRY — Pinkerton Academy will host a Boys Basketball pre-season New England Jamboree on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 3 to 6:30 p.m.
Coach Peter Rosinski has put together another one of the gems of New England preseason high school basketball.
Doors will open for the fans at 2:30 p.m. at Hackler Gym at Pinkerton.
Fans are asked to bring donations for the Derry food pantry, including canned goods and cash donations. Admission is free.
If there’s a snowstorm, the jamboree will move to noon on Sunday, Dec. 2.
This year’s jamboree will have some of the top teams from Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Participants will include Norwich Free Academy and East Catholic from Connecticut, Boston Latin and Lowell High School from Massachusetts, and St. Raphael from Rhode Island.
LHS has mandatory
meeting for athletes
LONDONDERRY — Londonderry High School athletic director Howard Sobolov has announced that the LHS Winter Sports Meet the Coaches Night will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. in the LHS cafeteria.
This is a required event for all athletes and parents. The new state concussion law guidelines will be discussed, and all parents and athletes will need to sign the new district form on that night.
No athlete will be allowed to participate in games, meets or matches until the form is completed. There also will be individual team meetings with the coaches. Call the athletic office at 432-6941, Ext. 2306, with questions.
Walk/run to benefit
EXETER — LOCO Sports is teaming up with the Exeter Hospital and Margaritas Restaurant to present the Disaster Relief 5K Walk and Run at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2.
This benefit event supports the Red Cross’s efforts for disaster relief to those affected by “superstorm” Sandy and other similar disasters.
One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the Disaster Relief 5K will be donated by LOCO Sports to the American Red Cross for disaster relief to those affected by Sandy and other disasters.
The family-friendly, traffic-controlled course will start and finish at Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant on Portsmouth Avenue in Exeter. Participants will be treated to post-event snacks drinks and Mexican food.
This is a relatively flat 5K course.
Race T-shirts will be given to the first 500 registered runners. Additional race shirts may be available at the race for $5, with any profits from race shirts also donated to the Red Cross.
There is free and ample parking near registration or within a reasonable walking distance.

Head to Durham and
meet UNH gymnasts
DURHAM — The University of New Hampshire gymnastics program will hold its annual “Meet the Team” on Sunday, Dec. 2, at Lundholm Gymnasium.
The 1 p.m. exhibition performance will be followed by a youth gymnastics clinic at 2:30 p.m.
Fans are invited for a 2013 season preview at the “Meet the Team” performance that will feature a blue/white competition from the gymnasts on all four events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
The squad, led by co-captains Jen Aucoin and Courtney Connors, will be split into two separate teams that will compete head-to-head in an exhibition.
This will be followed by a girls gymnastics clinic, where girls ages 5 and older will have the chance to work with the UNH gymnasts and coaching staff. The day will include an autograph session with the Wildcat student-athletes.
Tickets for the “Meet the Team” exhibition are $7 for adults, $5 for under-18 and seniors, and free for UNH students. The one-hour clinic after the exhibition costs $10 and includes free admittance to “Meet the Team.”
