“Free Fishing Day is a great opportunity for established anglers to take someone interested in ‘testing the waters’ or for families wishing to engage in an outdoor activity,” said Jason Smith, Inland Fisheries Chief for the N.H. Fish and Game Department. “They are sure to be ‘hooked’ after a fun day of fishing, and we hope they become established anglers themselves someday.”

Free Fishing Day coincides with Hatchery Open House Day in New Hampshire — a nice chance to visit one of New Hampshire’s six state-operated trout hatcheries. Stop in from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Find directions at

For details on fishing rules for various waters, consult the 2014 N.H. Freshwater and Saltwater fishing digests, available at

You can find lots more helpful information about fishing on the Fish and Game website at, including water bodies that have been recently stocked with fish, trout waters, lake depths, public access sites and more.

If you get hooked on Free Fishing Day, enjoy the fun year round by buying a license online at or from many friendly local license agents statewide.

Free Fishing Day kicks off the 2014 National Fishing and Boating Week, a nationwide observance encouraging families to have fun together on the water.
