---- — LONDONDERRY — Everybody scored Monday in a matchup between the Lancer lacrosse teams and their rivals from Andover, Mass.
The big winner was the HEADstrong Foundation, which supports people affected by blood cancer and research to eliminate it.
Andover won the varsity match, 10-8, after breaking a fourth-quarter tie.
But the game was about more than the final score, it was to raise awareness and money for the HEADstrong Foundation, which supports people affected by blood cancer and research to eliminate it.
Nicholas Colleluori was in his freshman year at Hofstra University, playing lacrosse there, when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
He battled the disease for 14 months, but died in November 2006.
After his diagnosis, Colleluori created HEADstrong to raise awareness and support others battling the disease. His family has continued his vision. Since 2006, the foundation has raised more than $5 million.
