DERRY — Red Sox DH David Ortiz is coming to Derry Saturday, April 27, to sign autographs.
Ortiz, who returned to the lineup Saturday, will be at LaCarreta Mexican Restaurant, 35 Manchester Road, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
On Saturday, during pre-game ceremonies to honor victims and heroes of the week of terror that preceded, Ortiz rocked Fenway Park and much of the country with his short speech. He told the crowd,
“This is our (expletive) city, and nobody is going to dictate our freedom,” he said. “Stay strong.”
After the game, FCC head Julius Genachowski, a Brookline native, tweeted “David Ortiz spoke from the heart at today’s Red Sox game. I stand with Big Papi and the people of Boston.”
Derry News Facebook fans agreed. Asked what they thought of Ortiz’s words, they were quick to respond.
“Tell it like it is,” Keith Munroe posted. “Nice job Big P!”
Dina Schratwieser Redmond wrote, “All he said is what we have all said. Go, Big Papi!”
Danielle Barrett thought he spoke for many.
“Spoken like a true Bostonian!” she posted. “Go Sox!”
Tickets are expected to sell out quickly. An autograph costs $99, and inscription of three or four words costs $50. Mail orders are accepted.
New England Picture will be raffling off a four-pack of tickets to the red Sox-Houston Astros game Sunday, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the Jeff Bauman Fund. Bauman, whose father lives in Concord, lost both his legs in the bombings last week.
Also, La Carreta is raffling off two items, a framed, autographed Tom Brady photo and a framed, autographed Rob Gronkowski jersey for the same cause. Visit gofundme.com/bucksforbauman.
