Former Astro runs for UNE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — University of New England women’s cross-country runner Michaela Moran of Atkinson, a Pinkerton academy graduate, has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Co-Runner of the Week, as well as Rookie of the Week, for the period ending Sept. 9.

Moran came away victorious in her first career full-field race, completing the 5,110-meter course at the UNE Invitational in 20:40 to best the next closest finisher in the 125-runner pack by five seconds.

The Nor’easters placed second of 11 as a team; the University of Southern Maine claimed the team title.

Londonderry, get ready to run

LONDONDERRY — On Wednesday, Oct. 10, Londonderry elementary schools will be holding their 28th annual cross-country race. The rain date would be Wednesday, Oct. 17.

This year, organizers anticipate more than 175 fifth-grade participants and more than 200 fans.

The race will start at approximately 4 p.m. on the Londonderry High School track. There will be a separate race for boys and girls.

HOLDERNESS — Enjoy a fun family day with hands-on activities related to the shooting sports, hunting and trapping at an Open House at Owl Brook Hunter Education Center in Holderness on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Admission is free. The event is part of the N.H. Fish and Game Department’s observance of National Hunting and Fishing Day. The center is located at 387 Perch Pond Road in Holderness.

Open House visitors will have a chance to try Owl Brook’s practice archery range and video-based interactive shooting simulator. Try out a Ruger shotgun at the shotgun range, and test your marksmanship on the center’s environmentally friendly rifle range. Bring your own equipment to try out the center’s 3-D woodland archery course.
