DERRY — Pinkerton Academy announces the start of fall sports tryouts.
To participate, all athletes must have a physical, parent permission form and medical emergency card completed. These forms should be brought to the first practice/tryout.

Here are the first dates of practice or tryouts.
Boys cross-country varsity: Monday, Aug. 20, 8:15 a.m. to noon, fieldhouse, Room 8)
Girls cross-country varsity: Monday, Aug. 20, 8 to 11 a.m., fieldhouse, Room 5
Field hockey: freshmen, Monday, Aug. 13, 7:30-10:30 a.m., fieldhouse, Room 3; upperclassmen, Monday, Aug. 13, 9 a.m. to noon, 2 to 4 p.m., fieldhouse, Room 3.
Football: Varsity, JV, Wednesday, Aug. 8, 7 to 10 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m., oval; freshmen, Monday, Aug. 13, 5 to 6:30 p.m., fieldhouse, parents asked to come, too.
Golf: Monday, Aug. 13, 9 a.m. to noon, in front of fieldhouse

DERRY — There will be basketball clinics for girls entering grades 7 through 10 on Saturday, Aug. 11, and Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the SportsZone, 7 A St.
Hone basketball skills, drills and conditioning. The cost is $15 per session or $25 for both. Register on site at the time of the clinic.
These clinics are designed to help players further develop their skills and to understand the techniques of the game of basketball. Fundamental instruction, individual development and conditioning practices are all part of the clinic experience.
The staff includes high school and club coaches. Coaches will help develop solid fundamental basketball skills in a fun, yet intense atmosphere. In addition, current and former college players will demonstrate and participate.
Included will be dribbling skills; primary and secondary transition; shooting instruction; application of concepts in 3 on 3, 4 on 4, 5 on 5; read/react offensive concepts; emphasis on proper defensive positioning; and more.

Mark the calendar for Run for the Apples 5K
LONDONDERRY — The Greater Derry Track Club and Mack’s Apples present Mack’s Run for the Apples 5K on Sunday, Aug. 26, at 5 p.m. The cross-country race is run entirely off road over the rolling terrain of Moose Hill Orchards.
Registration starts at 4 p.m. at the pond across Mammoth Road from the Mack’s Apples retail store. Overall and age group awards will be provided.
Registration is $15; families pay $30. There will be custom tank tops for the first 100 entrants.
