LONDONDERRY — Londonderry High School athletic director Howard Sobolov has announced that the Londonderry boys volleyball team has been awarded The American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 season.
Londonderry was only one of 22 high school boys volleyball teams nationally that have earned this award.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-1993 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
“Coach David Starin has done a great job not only coaching the team on the court, but also by stressing the need to be successful academically as well,” Sobolov said. “ This award is a wonderful achievement that we at Londonderry High School are all extremely proud of. He has set the bar high for his team and they have done an excellent job of meeting those expectations.”
