DERRY — The Greater Derry Track Club’s 2014 Kids Summer Fun Run kicked off June 26 at Pinkerton Academy’s track.
The six-week series continues July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31.
Registration opens at 6 p.m. and races start at 6:30 p.m.
All “children,” ages 2 to 92, are welcome, according to GDTC.
A donation of a nonperishable food item weekly is requested.
Members of the Greater Derry Track Club will lead stretching exercises and offer running tips.
Races are based on the following age groups: Adaptive, 100m dash; 2- and 3-year-olds, 50 m; 4- to 6-year-olds, 200m; 7- and 8-year-olds, 300m; 9- and 10-year-olds, 600m; 11- to 13-year-olds, cross-country mile; 14 and older, 1-mile race on track.
Children will receive participation ribbons each week. Water, Gatorade and watermelon will be supplied each week.
Ribbons are provided by Derry Recreation.
Runners who complete the series will receive medals and T-shirts from GDTC.
