Running camp starts next week at Pinkerton

DERRY — Greater Derry Running Camp for boys and girls fifth grade and older will be held July 26-30 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Pinkerton Academy Track.

The cost is $80 per child, $95 for late sign-up after July 12. There is a focus on cross country, but is also appropriate for anyone who wants to get in shape for a fall sport.

There will be daily runs, lectures, games, relays, movies, and an end-of-the-week 2-mile and 5K race with awards. Direct questions to Amy Bernard via e-mail at paruncamp@yahoo.com or call 887-6927.

Hampstead man makes hole-in-one

DERRY — Ed Mannion of Hampstead made his first career hole-in-one at Brookstone Golf Course in Derry on July 14 during the Wednesday Night Men's League.

From the back tee, Mannion used a 9-iron on the 147-yard eighth hole to record the ace. The shot was witnessed by playing partners Dave Moulton of Danvers Joe Thiboult of Auburn and John Henry of Atkinson.

Basketball camp offered next month

DERRY — The SportsZone in Derry is offering two more weeks of summer basketball camps. Times of all camps are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The boys camp is July 26-30 and a coed elite camp Tuesday, Aug. 3, through Friday, Aug. 6.

Register early for Lundgren 5K race

LONDONDERRY — The 31st annual Lundgren 5K Road Race is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 21, as part of Londonderry's Old Home Days.

The race is the oldest continuously running 5K held in New Hampshire. It is run on a USATF-certified course.

Pre-registration is $125, and day-of-the-race registration is the same. But early registration is recommended. T-shirts will be given to the first 250 race registrants.

Last-minute registration and shirt pickup can be done at Londonderry High School's gym lobby from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20.

Plaques and custom-designed tank tops will be awarded to all male and female winners and runners-up in each of 10 age groups. Prizes also will be raffled, with all runners eligible.

Registration on race day starts at 6:45 a.m. at Londonderry High School on Route 128.

Day camp offers kids a summer break

DERRY — Boys and girls ages 5 to 14 looking for a great week of indoor fun, should check out summer day camps at the SportsZone.

Basketball camp in Salem has one more week

SALEM — The Salem Basketball Camp will be held July 26-30 for boys and girls ages 6 to 15 at Salem High School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

Players are grouped by age, gender and ability level, so it is an excellent camp for both beginning and experienced players. The camp is well supervised. All players are eligible for many prizes and trophies during games and contests conducted throughout the week.
