Pinkerton moves to 2-0

Astro boys coach Kerry Boles was pleased with his team's 3-1 win over Memorial Aug. 28, but acknowledged there's still some work to do.

"But I am very encourged by the improvements that we've made," Boles said. "The defensive crew of seniors Matt Dunn, Austin Smith, Brian Kling, junior Tim Wood and sophomore John Hamilton were solid all afternoon. Let's hope we keep moving forward."

Pinkerton scored all three of its goals in the first half. The Crusaders were scoreless at halftime, but rallied and came close to putting the game within a goal several times, Boles said.

Owen Murray had two of the Astros three goals; Devin Moore had the third. Josh Johnston, Chris Horan and Tommy Martin each had an assist.

Goalkeeper Alex Horan had six saves for the 2-0 Astros.

Astros lose close battle

Pinkerton faced the tough and undefeated Winnacunnet Warriors Aug. 31, losing 2-1.

Devin Croteau scored Pinkerton's lone goal, assisted by Chris Horan. Alex Horan had five saves in the net for the Astros.

It was a physical battle all afternoon, coach Kerry Boles said. Dustin Beamon, Devin Moore, John Hamilton and Brian Kling played well for the Astros.

"This was a tough one for us to swallow. When you only give up 8 shots on the day, you expect to win," Boles said. "For the most part, I'm pleased with what what we did today. But, the downside is, we gave a late goal to end the half and then a late goal at the end of regulation. This is not typical of Pinkerton soccer. This is surprising and relatively disappointing. Hopefully, we can change that as the season progresses."

The Astros stand at 2-1-0 after the loss.

Junior Astros open with shutout

The JV Astros roared into the season with an 8-0 shutout over Bishop Guertin Aug.24.
