Derry wrestlers make strong showing at tournament

Wrestlers from the Boys and Girls Club of Derry showed up at the YMCA Holiday Wrestling Tournament Dec. 16 in Bow. They brought with 18 wrestlers, ranging in age from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Leading the way was Tyler Mackiernan, who took first place at his respected weight class for fifth- and sixth-graders.

Dillion Lavely and Sterling McLauglin both took home second-place finishes. Jack Mackiernan and Jake Scarelli took home third-place finishes. Landon Mackiernan and Andrew Lydick took home fourth place.

Also representing Derry well were Kilan Matson, Molly Fahey, Riley Spellman, Riley Cox, Sam Depelteau, Michael Zabriskie, Joe Demartino, Matt MacDougall, Mike Calderone, John Simonelli and Nathan Landry.

Explore Maine and Vermont

CONCORD Snowmobile enthusiasts will have a chance to explore some new territory the weekend of Jan. 25-27, during the New Hampshire-Vermont-Maine reciprocal snowmobile weekend.

Following are the ground rules for the weekend.

All snowmobiles legally registered in Vermont and Maine will be able to operate on New Hampshire trails during the three-day open weekend. All other New Hampshire laws and rules regarding the operation of snowmobiles must be adhered to, such as speed limits, youth operation standards, etc.

All snowmobiles legally registered in New Hampshire will be able to operate in Vermont and Maine during the reciprocal weekend. All other Vermont and Maine snowmobile laws and rules must be complied with, including Vermont’s mandatory liability insurance, safety education certification and youth operation requirements.

In addition to a law that passed in 2010 for the Vermont/New Hampshire reciprocity weekend, a new law passed in 2011 includes Maine in the three-day weekend, provided that our neighboring states continue to participate.
