The New Hampshire Bobcats AAU baseball teams began their inaugural season with three wins in as many games to open the Fall Wood Bat League season recently.
Connor Lyons of Manchester notched seven strikeouts for the win and Mitchell Fama of Derry knocked in two runs as the Bobcats 13U team defeated the New England Diamond Dawgs in a nail-biter, 5-4, at Dracut, Mass.
Right-handers Joseph Quintal and Cody Morissette helped preserve the win with clutch relief pitching.
The Bobcats jumped to a 5-1 lead behind hits by Morissette, who doubled in the fourth inning, and singles from Brody Dupuis and Dylan Bartlett. Isaac Brisson drove in a key run as the Bobcats took a 4-1 lead, and Fama added his second RBI with a two-out single to right field.
In other games, the Bobcats 14U squad swept the Concord Cannons by scores of 10-0 and 9-4, as Bailey Hamilton and Nick Salcito picked up the wins.
Hamilton and Manny Ray combined for eight strikeouts in the opener without yielding a hit, and Ryan Forkey of Derry provided strong pitching in the second game.
Riley Desmarais laced a single to drive in Salcito for the first run in Bobcats history. Bryce Barrett helped preserve the shutout with excellent defense at third base. Michael Montembeault had three hits on the day, including a run-scoring double in the second game.
