DERRY — Seven of Derry's Wrestling Rebels got a taste of high school wrestling on Feb. 2 when they participated in a preliminary match against Londonderry Middle School prior to the Pinkerton-Londonderry high school meet.
The stands were packed as Robbie Fahey, Tyler Mackiernan, T.J. Briggs, Derek Wilson, Seamus Dolan, Dylan Barreiro and John Durant experienced the thrill of wrestling in the Pinkerton fieldhouse on a full-sized mat.
The Rebels won the closely contested and well-wrestled meet, 21-18.
Fahey, Mackiernan and Briggs, in spite of wrestling well, were pinned by their opponents.
Dolan, Barreiro and Durant won their matches by pin.
Derek Wilson provided the margin of victory by winning a dramatic, 3-2 decision.
The Rebels coaching staff thanked the Pinkerton wrestlers, coaches and athletic director for making the youth wrestling meet possible.
