Basketball clinics planned for boys at the Boys & Girls Club
DERRY — Boys & Girls Club of Greater Derry will hold a basketball clinic on Monday, Oct. 7, and Wednesday, Oct. 9, for third- and fourth-grade boys from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and for fifth- through eighth-grade grade boys from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Join the LMS 2.3-mile challenge taking place Oct. 22
LONDONDERRY — The Londonderry Middle School Trail Walk/Run Race will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 3 p.m.
The Wellness Committee’s annual 2.3-mile challenge will take participants from behind the middle school, through the trails behind the high school, around the kindergarten and back to the middle school.
The Londonderry community is invited to participate. There will be acknowledgements for the team most represented, the grade level most represented, and the first runners and walkers to finish.
LMS students can sign up through their physical education class. Community members and LHS students can sign up at londonderry.org.
The $3 entry goes to further the work of the Wellness Committee, a group that sponsors Wellness Day at LMS, snowshoeing, intermural tennis, volleyball, kick-boxing and jump roping among other activities to keep students moving and active.

Join a dodgeball league in Derry at the SportsZone
DERRY — A new dodgeball league begins on Oct. 27 at the SportsZone, 7 A St.
The league will consist of three divisions: men’s, co-ed and high school boys. The cost is $450 per team or $60 per person.
Games will take place on Sundays from 6 to 9 p.m. The league will last seven to eight weeks plus playoffs. Games will be a six-on-six round robin format; the numbers of games played are based on the number of teams in the division. Registration deadline is Oct. 22.

Travel team tryouts Saturday at West Running Brook
DERRY — Derry Parks and Recreation Travel Basketball Program is a competitive league for children willing to commit themselves to the team and dedicate time to the practices, games, and tournaments. Participants are required to attend a tryout on Saturday, Oct. 5, at West Running Brook Middle School. Tryouts will help coaches decide which candidates will form the strongest teams.
The following is the schedule for tryouts: girls, third and fourth grade, 8 a.m.; girls, fifth and sixth grade, 10 a.m.; boys, third and fourth grade, noon; boys, fifth and sixth grade, 2 p.m.
Parent/guardians are required to be at tryouts. Following tryouts, each player accepted into his or her respective division will be required to officially register. The registration fee will be $175 per participant and will cover many program expenses. No fees will be collected at tryouts, only once a child officially makes the team. Sign up starting Monday for Peewee Basketball Clinic
DERRY — The Peewee Basketball Clinic is a fun and instructional program introducing the fundamentals of the sport to athletes who will be 4 as of Jan. 1, 2014. A copy of a birth certificate is required at time of registration.
The clinic is a skills based program; no games will be played. Clinics will be held for 30 minutes each Saturday from the beginning of January 2014 to mid-March.

Kids, get ready for the winter basketball program in Derry
DERRY — The Youth Winter Basketball Program is a fun and instructional way to introduce the fundamentals of the sport in a non-competitive atmosphere. Children from age 5 through high school as of Jan. 1, 2014, are invited to register for this program beginning Monday, Oct. 7. Open registration will end Nov. 15.
Children in grades 3-8 will have a weekly practice, as well as a Saturday game. All other divisions will consist of Saturday games only. Practices and games will begin in early January 2014 and run through mid-March.
The Derry resident fee for this program is $40, $60 for nonresidents.
