LONDONDERRY — The National Honor Society at Londonderry High School began its third annual Dodgeball Tournament Friday and Saturday night.
Many of the 38 teams competing have quirky names — Awky Turtles, The Seven Deadly Sins and the Officers of Oz.
The tournament has raised more than $3,000 in previous years, according to Honor Society publicist Hilary Gorgol.
"Our society is based upon bettering our community," Gorgol said, "So this year we have decided to donate all proceeds to a former graduate of Londonderry High, Steve Sullivan, who is currently working in Africa with the Peace Corps."
After graduating from Londonderry High, Sullivan received his bachelor's degree from Tulane University in New Orleans before joining the Peace Corps. In his current assignment, Sullivan, an accomplished artist, has had the opportunity to introduce the children in the village to art. The money raised from the dodgeball tournament will help Sullivan purchase art supplies.
The next round of the tournament will be held Monday, March 15, with finals on Thursday, March 18, both at 6 p.m., in the high school gymnasium.
