Scouting is Feb. 16
MANCHESTER — The Daniel Webster Council, Boy Scouts of America will be holding the inaugural “Sno-Derby for Scouting” on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Hidden Valley Scout Camp in Gilmanton Iron Works.
The event is open to the public and will feature fun for the whole family, including a snowmobile radar run and an ice fishing tournament on Lake Eileen, as well as opportunities to explore the 3,400-acre Griswold Scout Reservation.
The snowmobile radar run will offer multiple classes and participants may enter for $20, which includes three runs and a banquet meal. The ice fishing tournament costs $10 for youth (under 16 years of age) and $15 for adults, and also includes a banquet meal. There is no charge for spectators.
A “Scouting Fun Run” will be offered for participants to explore the camp by snowmobile, snowshoes, cross-country skis or on foot. Stations will be set up around the camp with fun activities, most free of charge. Zip-line and shotgun stations will be available for a small fee for participants 12 years of age or older.
Non-cash prizes will be awarded to top finishers in the radar run and ice fishing tournament, like a snowmobile helmet, outdoor apparel and gift cards. The top angler of the day will receive a power ice auger. Food will be available to purchase and there will be a closing awards banquet at the end of the event.
