The Rockingham Area Youth Swim club held a Swim-a-thon Jan. 5 at the Workout Club and Wellness Center in Salem.
Seventy-four RAYS team members swam distances from 10 to 200 lengths of the pool to raise almost double the initial goal of $5,000.
The funds will go toward the purchase of sorely needed equipment, including a scoreboard. Participants were eligible for numerous raffle gifts, including gift cards, swim gear and movie passes, and recharged after their long swims with an ice cream social.
The highest fundraisers were: Lauren Clemons of Windham, Kira Farrell of Windham, Hannah Pickett of Windham and Addison Carder-Cannillo of Derry. Prizes included a Nook, cash and a photo session with Andreas Stahly Photography.
Twelve RAYS swimmers swam 200 lengths of the pool (the equivalent of almost 3 miles) to raise funds. Those hardy souls were: Addison Carder-Cannillo of Derry, Gillian Connors of Derry, Hunter Hazard of Derry, Sarah Leinbach of Andover, Mass., Caitlyn Mahan of Londonderry, Madison Martin of Londonderry, Emily Martsolf of Windham, Sasha McNeal of Salem, Sara Muller of Derry, Christian Nelson of Derry, Hannah Pickett of Windham and Jillian Serrentino of Pelham.
The RAYS Parent Advisory Board would like to thank those businesses that contributed to the fundraising with raffle gifts.
The RAYS host a USA Swim meet on Jan. 27 in Salem, then duel the Manchester Rapids Swim Team in Salem on Feb. 1.
