Four PA wrestlers medal in tourney


The Pinkerton Academy wrestling team traveled to Concord on Jan. 30 to compete in the Capital City Classic. The tournament attracted 16 teams from Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.

Cumberland, R.I., finished first, followed by Maine's Noble High School. Concord finished third and Pinkerton finished seventh.

Four Pinkerton wrestlers placed in the tournament. Senior captain Collin Crowell and junior David Owens won gold medals in the 140-pound and the 130-pound weight classes.

Daniel Baker, a junior, took third at 135 pounds. Tanner Burke finished fourth at 119 pounds.

Pinkerton skaters blow past Berlin

On Saturday, Pinkerton scored twice seven seconds apart in the final seconds of the second period and cruised past Berlin, 3-0.

Andrew Stefanelli scored at 14:46 and Jake Dionne lit the lamp at 14:53.

J.J. Solloway stopped 32 shots as the Astros beat Berlin for only the second time in its history.

Pinkerton JV boys fall to Exeter

Mark Piechowiak had 23 points, but the Pinkerton boys JV basketball team fell to Exeter, 72-65, on Jan. 29.

Cameron Marshall had 7 points.

JV Astro girls top Exeter, 38-18

Pinkerton's JV girls basketball team brought its record to 7-3 with a 38-18 win over Exeter Jan. 29.

Liz Lang had 14 points and Nicole Yannalto had 7 for the win.

Avila scores 11 in Astro loss

Don Avila led Pinkerton's freshman boys basketball team in a tough loss to Spaulding's Red Raiders Saturday, 66-64. Avila had 11 points in the loss.

Brandon Paquin led the Astros on the boards with 10 rebounds.

The team's record stands at 11-3.

Freshman girls top Spaulding, 57-10

Pinkerton's freshman girls basketball team crushed Spaulding Saturday, 57-10.

Morgan Trahan had 10 points in the win, followed by Brenna McNally with 8.

Amanda Newman and Maura Kane dominated on defense.

Timberlane wrestlers best Astros, 49-18

The Astros of Pinkerton Academy were defeated by the Timberlane Owls 49-18 in a wrestling meet at Pinkerton Academy on Jan. 27.

Collin Crowell and Dan Barker of Pinkerton won their matches by pin.

Crowell remains undefeated in New Hampshire.

Pinkerton JV skaters drop one, 3-1

Pinkerton Academy's JV ice hockey team fell to Bishop Guertin on Jan. 27, 3-1.

That brought Pinkerton's record to 3-6-1.

Vinnie Spencer scored the Astros' lone goal. They played well, but couldn't respond to their opponents' two late goals.

Freshman boys flex their muscles

The Astros freshmen boys basketball team trounced Salem on Jan. 23, 65-26. The young Astros scored 27 of their points in the third quarter.

Andrew Ong led the way with 13 points.

The defense turned it on in the second half, holding Salem to just 11 points.

Two days later, the team squeaked by the Timberlane Owls, 53-51.

Dan Avila made all the difference with a three-pointer at the buzzer. That led the Astros freshmen boys to their 11th win of the season.

The team dropped a game to Winnacunnet on Jan. 28, 62-51. That was just their second loss of the season.

Astro JV girls beat West, 55-15

Pinkerton's JV girls basketball team had an impressive win over West High on Jan. 26, bringing their record to 6-3.

Caleigh Goode had 11 points in the 55-15 win. She was followed by Kasey Therrien with 9.

The Astros came out strong, scoring 20 points in the first quarter and finishing with 15 in the fourth.

Pinkerton JV boys trounce West

Pinkerton's JV boys team brought their record to 6-1 on Jan. 26 with a decisive win over West High, 65-36.

Cameron Marshall led the team with 10 points.

Scott Bradley had seven rebounds.

Pinkerton frosh girls top Salem

Pinkerton Academy's girls freshmen roundballers scored 26 of their 43 points in the second half of a game Jan. 23 against Salem.

The Astros won that game, 43-19.

Alyssa Duckery led with 11 points, but she had some strong support on the boards from Amanda Newman and Mikayla Rowell.
