Starting pitcher Ricky Perry of Derry tossed five shutout innings, allowing one hit, to lead the 13U Bobcats in a 2-0 victory against the host Concord Cannons on Sunday morning.
Perry also had two hits and stole five bases in one of the team’s best all-around performances of the season. The efficient righty faced 18 batters -- only three more than the minimum -- while striking out two and walking one. Mitchell Fama of Derry sealed the shutout with four scoreless innings of relief, notching five strikeouts.
Joseph Quintal of Bedford singled and scored the first run in the fourth inning. In the eighth, Alex Pelham of Litchfield reached on a walk and eventually scored on Quintal’s laser-single to center field, giving the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. Perry went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a bunt single, while Fama went 1-for-4 and helped manufacture the game’s first run.
The Bobcats improved to 5-1 in the Middle School Division of the Granite State Fall Wood Bat League.
