Londonderry students run a country mile

Londonderry fifth-graders sprint for the finish

LONDONDERRY — Some 175 Londonderry fifth-graders stretched then sprinted during the Londonderry elementary schools’ 28th annual cross-country race last week.

Hundreds of fans, including parents, sibling and high school athletes, cheered the young runners on.

Boys and girls ran separate 1-mile races.

Wearing sunglasses and looking ready to continue running, Ryan Young of the South School Hawks was the first boy to cross the finish line.

Another South School Hawks runner, Jordan Galluzzo, was the first girl to finish the 1-mile run.

But all the participants were cheered and rewarded for their efforts and taking steps toward being healthy adults.
