Wrestling Rebels host 'Classic' tournament

Rebel Classic draws hundreds of athletes

---- — DERRY — Pinkerton Academy’s Hackler Gymnasium was filled Sunday with hundreds of young wrestlers, their coaches, parents and supporters.

The Wrestling Rebels of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Derry hosted the annual Rebel Classic tournament and more than 400 young athletes participated.

The tournament was for young wrestlers in kindergarten through eighth grade. Apprentice and high school referees officiated at the all-day event.

There were plenty of medals and trophies awarded. All first-, second- and third-place finishers qualified to compete n the Tournament of Champions in Columbus, Ohio. All first-, second-, third- and fourth-place finishers qualified to participate in the Gene Mills Eastern Tournament on Oswego, N.Y.

Regardless of individual wrestlers’ results, it was an exciting day for all participants.
