Lancers receive many DI honors

LONDONDERRY — Lady Lancer Aliza Simpson is New Hampshire girls basketball Player of the Year. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high academic achievement and”exemplary” character.

Simpson led her team to a 19-3 season and the Division I championship. She has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at the University of New Hampshire in the fall. She also was named Miss NH Basketball and Division I Player of the Year.

Lancer coach John Fagula was named DI Coach of the Year.

Lancer boys basketball coach Nate Stanton was named DI Coach of the Year.

In hockey, Lancer Eric Coburn was named Division I Player of the Year.

Londonderry woman named to Academic Squad

COLCHESTER, Vt. — Eighteen members of the Saint Michael’s College field hockey team, including a Londonderry resident, qualified for the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Collegiate Division II National Academic Squad. The Purple Knights earned an NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team Award for the 10th consecutive year.

Senior Courtney Bedell of Londonderry was among 29 players to land on the National Academic Squad for the fourth time in their careers.

The National Academic Squad recognizes student-athletes that have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2013-2014 academic year, while the team award recognizes programs that achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA during the first semester.

Teams seek AAU baseball players

The Youngsville Granite Heat AAU teams are looking for two more U13 baseball players and four more U14 players.

Players must be team age as of May 1, 2014. The season starts March 29.
