PORTSMOUTH — Millennium Running is hosting a special fundraising event Sunday, April 29, at 10 a.m., in honor of fallen Greenland police Chief Michael Maloney.
Millennium Running was founded by John Mortimer, a 1995 Londonderry High School graduate. The company runs the Millennium Race each New Year's Day in Londonderry.
Maloney, 48, was killed in the line of duty on April 12, just one week short of his retirement.
The event will feature a 5.5 mile run or walk from the Portsmouth police station to the Greenland police station.
Special prizes for participating runners will be available.
The first 400 registrants will receive a commemorative T-shirt and the first 1,000 to register will receive a game ticket to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats game on May 2.
There will also be a post-race barbecue for all participants, courtesy of the Meat House.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Michael Maloney Family Trust. Those interested in participating can register online for $25. Those who are unable to attend, but would still like to contribute, can donate online by becoming a "virtual runner." There also are options to volunteer during race day.
