DERRY — The Greater Derry Track Club announced the results of the 17th Annual Boston Prep 16 Mile Road Race on Sunday, Jan. 22.
The race is one of New England's most popular, and is considered a perfect Boston Marathon training event. The race course, considered "moderately challenging," travels the scenic country roads of Derry and East Derry.
Six hundred four runners, including five from Derry and two from Londonderry, finished the race under the blue skies of a cold and clear New England winter day.
Scott McGrath, 25, of Andover, Mass., was the overall winner. McGrath averaged a 5:43 per mile pace over the 16-mile race length, completing the event in 1:31:15.
Thirty-nine-year-old Diona Fulton of Watertown, Mass., was the top female runner. Fulton averaged a 6:50 per mile pace over the 16 miles, finishing in 1:49:11.
The Greater Derry Track Club is a non-profit charitable organization formed in 1978 devoted to promote running related activities and improvements in the community. The Boston Prep 16 M is one of the four events annually hosted by the GDTC. The other events are the Kid's Summer Fun Run Series (six weeks June-July), Mack's Apples Cross Country 5K (August), and Turkey Trot 5K (Thanksgiving morning).
