New year's race draws 1,600-plus

More than 1,600 start 2014 off at a fast pace

LONDONDERRY — More than 1,600 runners started 2014 with a chilly run Saturday.

Leaving from Londonderry High School, runners took on a 5K challenge and younger runners did the Millennium Mile, all hosted by Millennium Running,

Millennium Running encourages schools to get fit this year and offered cash prizes to the schools with the top three numbers of students participating.

After the race, runners enjoyed snacks and received their awards.

Peter Najem of Derry led the pack, finishing in 3:59.
