Get outside during Frost Festival
DERRY — The Granite State FFA Association will host benefit snowshoe races during Frost festival Saturday, Feb. 15, at J&F Farms. The money raised will benefit agricultural students statewide, including those from Pinkerton Academy.
The 2.5K and 5K snowshoe races will begin at 11 a.m. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. or can be done online at firstname.lastname@example.org Limited snowshoe rentals are available. In the event of minimal snow cover, the races will switch to cross-country races. For more information, visit NHFFA.org or call 434-7086.
On Sunday, there will be free snowmobile rises and demonstrations from noon to 4 p.m. at Hoodkroft Golf Course, sponsored by Derry Pathfinders Snowmobile Club. Also Sunday, from noon to 3 p.m., there will be an ice-fishing demonstration at Gallien’s Town Beach, sponsored by the Beaver Lake Association.
There also will be open ice hockey and skating with the Pinkerton Academy hockey team. Participants must provide their own skates, sticks and helmets.
Local synchronized swimmers score
The Catalinas Synchronized Swim Team of the YMCA of Greater Manchester recently competed in the New England Synchronized Swim Association figure meet at Wheaton College.
The team competed against nine other teams in the Novice, Intermediate, Age Group and Masters divisions. Synchronized swimming is a water sport that involves swimming, dance and gymnastics.
Novice Reilly Roedel placed second in the 8 and under age division, Layla Neveu placed second, Emma Favorite placed third, and Elliot Moller placed sixth in the 11-12-age division. All four girls are from Manchester. Annalise Poisson of Amherst placed eighth in the Novice 13 and over age division.
In the Intermediate category, Julia Caselden of Derry placed first in the 11-12-age division and Sarah Hanna of Goffstown placed fifth in the 13 and over age division.
Molly Spalding of Mont Vernon placed sixth in the Age Group 18-19-age division.
