Penguin Plunge supports Special Olympics

HAMPTON BEACH — High school students from Londonderry and hundreds of others took the plunge at Hampton Beach Saturday to benefit New Hampshire Special Olympics.

A day later, teachers from Matthew Thornton, Moose Hill School, community members, Londonderry police Lt. Tim Jones and others braved the frigid Atlantic to support Special Olympics.

The theme for Sunday was “Zombies,” which resulted in some unusual costumes.

Bare-chested former Bay State Sen. Scott Brown made quite a splash when he plunged with Buckley’s Frozen Seamen.

The Londonderry Special Forces team had 12 members. Team leader Lindsay Ross is an educator at Matthew Thornton was making her seventh plunge.

Early estimates of the amount raised over the weekend topped the $600,000 mark.
