LHS claims girls' Class L lax crown

Girls Lacrosse

There is nothing better than winning a state championship. Unless, of course, you happen to knock off your arch rivals to do it.

Londonderry High capped off an undefeated season (18-0) by clipping Pinkerton Academy, 9-6, to win the Class L State Title.

Kayla Green and Dana Boyle each scored a hat trick to pace the LHS offense. Josie Bezeredy added a goal and an assist fo the winners. Marcie Marino and Mackenzie Schleicher also scored.

Pinkerton (13-3) got three goals from Kacie Connal and a goal and two assists from Heather Carr.

Tennis

Londonderry sophomore Alex Burbine, battling the effects of a fractured cheekbone, fell short in his attempt to capture a state championship.

Burbine advanced to the final of the singles tournament with an impressive 6-1, 6-4 win over Ben Arguin of Trinity. but in the final, Burbine ran into a 6-5 senior, power-serving buzzsaw by the name of Connor Hyde of Con-Val. Hyde rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win.

In the doubles tournament, the LHS team of Burbine and senior Tyler Palmieri was knocled out in the state semifinals by the Hanover team of Corwin and Kelley in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.

Track and Field

The top female track athlete in Greater Derry enjoyed an outstanding day at the recent New England Track and Field Championships in Vermont.

Londonderry junior Becca Parascandola set a LHS record in the 100 meter hurdles with a blistering time of 14.62 seconds, good for second place overall. Parascandola also placed sixth in the high jump (5-3).

Baseball

The Londonderry High baseball team pushed eventual state champ Keene to the limit, but fell, 2-1 in the semifinals. LHS scored their only run of the game in the first inning when Sean Caron drove in Kyle Neverman with an RBI single. Jake Finnegan pitched well in defeat, before tiring and experiencing control problems in the sixth.

Post-season honors

Softball

Londonderry sophomore first baseman Danielle Crutcher was named to the First Team All Class L squad. She was joined by Pinkerton senior pitcher Cara Chooljian. The Second Team includes Londonderry junior shortstop Emily Kraytenberg and Pinkerton junior catcher Shannon Doherty.

Boys' Lacrosse

The First Team All Division 1 team includes sophomore attack Tom Auger, sophomore defense Zach Tulley, senior midfield Brian Estes and junior midfield Jef Guilherme of Pinkerton. The Second team includes senior midfield Steve Ribero of Londonderry and senior attack Teagan Norris, senior defense Colby Verge, junior defense Seth richard and junior midfield Mike Auger of Pinkerton. Mike Durand of Londonderry and Steve Wolenski of Pinkerton made honorable mention.

Girls' Lacrosse

State Champion Londonderry dominated the Class L First team with senior attack Kay;a Green, senior defense Kelcie Malloy, senior goalie Taylor Hadcock and junior midfield Dana Boyle. Also makin the First Team were Pinkerton junior defense Cori Reese, senior attack Nicole Curry and junior midfield Kacie Connal. Making the second team were Pinkerton senior midfield Devan Shea and Londonderry junior mifield Josie Bezeredy. Honorable mentions included Pinkerton senior attack Heather Carr and sophomore goalie Diana Krause and Londonderry junior midfield Marcie Marino.

Baseball

Londonderry senior Kyle Neverman (SS/P) was named to the Class L All-State First Team. He was joined by teammates senior Sean Caron (OF) and sophomore Kasey Carollo (P). The Second Team includes junior Zach Mathieu (C) of Pinkerton, and junior Dan Lagasse (3B/P) of Londonderry. The Third Team includes junior Jake Finnegan (P) and senior Brian Finnegan (2B/P) of Londonderry.
